Volunteer hours

Posted on May 29 2025 - 10:30am

Don’t forget to keep track in your Scout Book of your Volunteer Hours and Conservation Volunteer hours for advancements.

Forwarded from Elizabeth Root,

If scouts are interested in earning conservation hours and serving their community, then simply show up on Saturday, June 7th. Mr. Bill Marshall is the local Invasive Plant Working Group rep, who will run the event. Scouts < 14 years old please plan to have an adult with you.I’ve attached the FB info from last months event for reference.

Last meetings of the year?

Posted on May 28 2025 - 10:20pm

We had a very nice spring Court of Honor tonight.    Ani did an excellent job as Master of Ceremonies, and our Senior Patrol stepped up as well.

Congratulations to everyone who earned Rank advancements, Merit Badges, Recruiter Patches, and "Trained" Patches.

Please make sure that all Scouts are writing their names in their hats, kerchiefs, Class A Uniforms, and Scout Books.

On Sunday 6/1, and Saturday 6/7, the Mount Washington group may be doing more training hikes.   Stay tuned for details.

Next Wednesday 6/4, we're having a game night.   Depending on the weather, it will be outdoor games at Lawrence Road Park, or indoor board games in the Church basement.

On Sunday afternoon 6/8, we're going to try to do something outdoors with a water theme.   We may meet at the towns VMP pool, or a local pond like Gay City Park.   Stay tuned for more info!    This is currently our last planned meeting of the year.   Several Scouts have asked that we have other meetings during the summer.    We'll offer some opportunities to get together.

On Sunday 6/15, the PLC has a picnic and yearly planning session where they'll plan out our major activities for the 2025-2026 Scout year.

And then, the Mount Washington trip, Summer Camp, and an Adventure weekend in August.

Troop Uniform

Posted on May 28 2025 - 9:55pm
Below is a list showing the parts of our Troop uniform.

Here are the Scout Shop hours.      If you are going to go to a Scout shop to pick up anything, I recommend calling first to confirm their hours.

You can also order online through:   https://www.scoutshop.org/uniforms/boy-scouts.html

This is a checklist that shows where the patches are attached:      Uniform checklist

Please note that the checklist shows many items that are not a part of our Troop uniform.

Patches can be sewn on, or you can use iron on sheets, fabric glue, or velcro.

Our Troop Uniform consists of:

  • Scouts BSA Class A Uniform top short sleeve
  • CT Rivers Council Patch (may be included)
  • Troop Numbers  “1”,”8”,”6”
  • BSA Scouts epaulets (Shoulder Loops green)
  • Belt
  • Hat
  • Kerchief slide
  • Scouts BSA Kerchief - Navy Blue
  • Scouts BSA Handbook
  • (You may also want to buy the book cover or provide your own)

We do not require the official pants, shorts, socks or other gear as part of our Troop uniform, but as time goes on, your Scout may be interested in those.

Court of Honor

Posted on May 27 2025 - 12:07pm
A reminder that this Wednesday 5/28 is our Spring Court of Honor where our Scouts will be presented with rank advancements and Merit Badges they've earned since our Fall Court of Honor.    Families are invited.   The usual 7 - 8:15PM time in the Church basement.

Scouts, if your last name begins with "A" - "M", please bring a finger food snack to share,   and if your last name begins with "N" - "Z",  a drink to share.

Full Class A uniforms, and your Scout book.    We’ll probably have extra time to have Patrol corners.

If you still have any Troop gear from previous campouts, please bring it.

If you have any MB selections or Medical forms for Summer Camp, please bring those.

See you then!

Flags Thursday

Posted on May 21 2025 - 11:14pm

On Saturday we had a challenging 12 mile training hike with the Mount Washington group.     Lots of fun, a couple of bears,  and some sore feet.

We had a good Troop meeting tonight working on rank advancements, summer camp prep, and 3 Scouts made Tenderfoot!    Congratulations to Bhavan, Kavin, and Pravarsh.

On Thursday 5/22, we’ll be placing flags on the gravestones at Wapping Cemetery.    Either park there, or park at the Library/Wapping Community Church parking lot, and we’ll walk over.    We’ll meet at 6:30 PM in Class A uniforms to take place in a tradition of placing flags at the graves of soldiers in honor of Memorial Day.    Please come and show your support.   This counts towards Service Hours for rank advancement.     Rain is forecast, so dress appropriately and stay tuned for a late afternoon announcement if we have to cancel if the weather gets too extreme.

Monday is Memorial Day, and the Memorial Day Parade.      We’ll meet at the usual place at South Satellite Road at 09:00 AM in full Class A uniforms, including your hat, good walking footwear, and a water bottle.

Look for all the Scouts assembling down the road.

The parade steps off at 10:00 and ends at the Veterans Memorial Pool (VMP) just after 11:00.    You can pick up there.

Please come and show support as we remember and honor those U.S.  military personnel who have died while serving in the U.S. armed forces.

Hope you can join us!     We could also use another adult to march with us.

Next Wednesday is our spring Court of Honor where our Scouts will be presented with rank advancements and Merit Badges they've earned since our Fall Court of Honor.

And stay tuned for more information about Summer Camp!

Volunteer hours this Saturday

Posted on May 14 2025 - 11:17pm

We had a productive Troop and Parent Meeting tonight.    Thanks for all who participated, and we're looking forward to your help in keeping our program going with opportunities to join us on campouts and other activities, help behind the scenes to put those activities together, and help as Merit Badge Counselors.   Stay tuned for more information on how to get involved!

This Saturday it's all Scout hands on deck to help our Charter Organization the Avery Street Church.   On Saturday from 9-11, please come to the church to help spread mulch and perform grounds maintenance.    Wear working clothes as you may get dirty and some kind of work gloves if you have them.    This time counts as service hours towards rank advancement.    See you at 9!

Afterwards, the Mount Washington group will have a training hike.    Location will be TBD based on the weather.    Try to pack everything you'd bring to Mount Washington into your backpack along with all the clothes you'd hike in.   Bring a bagged lunch to eat on the way or maybe on the trail.    More details to come.

Only two weeks until our Spring Court of Honor!     Make sure you look at the list of ranks and Merit Badges that Mr Morris sent out, and let him know ASAP if it's missing anything.     We may have a few last minute rank-ups next Wednesday.

Stay tuned for more information on Summer Camp including a packing list, and get your medical forms in as soon as possible
